Lamb 2012

During all the craziness of the holiday, we picked up our second lamb order from Zekiah Farms!  We opted to skip the shoulder roasts in favor of more ground lamb – a hard choice to make, but we really love ground lamb!

We also ended up with a bunch of lamb lives, so I’m going to need to figure out something to do with those beyond just “feed to cats.”

Finally, back to the market after a number of weeks of craziness.

We picked up tomatoes, acorn squash, green beans, potatoes, zucchini, radishes, red onions, eggs, and some sweets – banana bread and little toffee squares.

This was the last week of the market before I headed out of town for a few weeks.

Basil, corn, zucchini, tomatoes, concord grapes, and a bunch of beef jerky for travel food!

I can’t believe it’s August already!  Our farmers seem to be dropping like flies as there were lots of no shows at the market today.

I still managed to get everything I was after, and then some.  I picked up potatoes, sweet potatoes, little tomatoes, a few little quick breads, and a TON of onions.

I picked up some little yellow tomatoes too, but forgot to unpack them for the first picture.  We also got a block of cheddar cheese, nectarines and white peaches, one big tomato, cucumbers, yellow zucchini, and eggs.  It was definitely a productive week at the farmers market for us!

I haven’t been in a huge cooking mood recently, so I’m trying to keep things super simple at the market so that I don’t get too overwhelmed.

This week we got tomatoes, eggs, green onions, and potatoes.  Yum.

This photo also shows off our beautiful new lazy susan!  It will make taco nights quite a bit easier.

I was out of town this week, so Art went to the market without me.

He picked up tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, zucchinis, eggplant, pecans, and a bunch of fresh herbs.  He used tomatoes and the fresh herbs to make himself roasted tomato sauce!

Last week was super hot at the farmers market, but we made our trip anyway.

I’m glad we did since we were treated to the rare appearance of tomatillos!  I also got tomatoes, green onions, basil, cilantro, zucchini, green bell peppers with a lot of red, cucumbers, potatoes, and yellow onions.

Then we trekked out to Zekiah and picked up a bunch of skirt steaks, two hangar steaks, a flat iron that seemed determined to come home with us, a kohlrabi, and a bunch of peaches.  We also got some “stuffing tomatoes” to try out.  Definitely a productive trip!

It was much cooler at the farmers market this weekend than it was last weekend!  Sadly, I’ll be out of town next weekend, so I had to restrain myself a little bit in the produce purchasing realm.

I still went a bit crazy with tomatoes, of course.  I picked up some gorgeous little ones, some yellows, a few heirlooms, and some heirloom seconds which will go into gazpacho.  I hope.  I also got eggs, cheese, some very red bell peppers, zucchini, pecans, lemon zucchini bread, and an assortment of little purple and yellow potatoes.

Once upon a time I went to the farmers market and bought this stuff:

I took a picture when I got home, and then forgot to make a post about it.  Here you can see lettuce, pattypan squash, green onions, purple carrots, squash, red onions, potatoes, peaches, and tomatoes.  Lots of great colors.

Art was awesome enough to go to the market while I was out of town!

He picked up pattypans, red cabbage, tomatoes, and Japanese eggplants.  What a nice treat to return home to!
